If used correctly, white office furniture can make a pure and fresh impression and create a peaceful atmosphere. To prevent a 'white' room from looking blank and boring, other colours or materials should be introduced to the design. White looks great together with wood furniture or coloured glass or mixed with black office furniture to create a minimalist modern design.

WHITE OFFICE DESKS AND TABLES

White office desks and tables are available in glass, melamine and mdf and you can choose between a glossy or matt surface. By keeping your desk surfaces white the room will appear light and big even if other furniture is dark.

Create a crisp look in your boardroom with a large white glass table with aluminium or chrome frame and legs. Add wooden, black or different coloured boardroom chairs to complete the look. For a warmer feel turn it around and use white leather boardroom chairs with a wooden boardroom table.

WHITE OFFICE STORAGE

White storage units such as filing cabinets, drawers, cupboards and bookshelves would blend in and appear smaller if put against a white wall. If you want them to be more noticeable, many units are now available with a wooden frame or with coloured glass doors.

In an otherwise white room, add a splash of colour through accessories and by making one piece of furniture stick out. A large red metal Bisley filing cabinet would make a contemporary and fun effect and add a bit of warmth to the room.

WHITE RECEPTION FURNITURE

Make your reception area feel airy and spacious with a white reception desk and matching white leather sofas or tub chairs. Choose a reception desk with wooden, aluminium or coloured glass features and find a coffee table to match.

If you are still not convinced that white is the colour for you then cream furniture, or a very light wood like beech, could have a similar effect as white furniture.

Holding A Successful Garage Sale To Raise Awareness Funds

There is an art to holding a successful garage sale and making LOTS of money. Any money you spend, you always reimburse yourself first out of the sale proceeds!!!!

Four weeks before your sale, email all of your friends, co-workers, and family members. Tell them you are having a garage sale where 100% of the proceeds will be donated to breast cancer. Also, ask if anyone would like to volunteer their time to help you to call you. In your email give suggestions on items:

• Furniture (Let them know if they have furniture to call you. You can rent a U-Haul truck for $30. If anyone calls, you can then schedule to pick up everyone’s furniture on the same day.)
• Clothes (men, women, children) – ASK for hangers
• Purses, briefcases, luggage
• Old CDs, cameras, electronics, computer equipment, lamps
• Kitchen stuff, small appliances, mugs, glasses, plates, bakeware
• Jewelry
• Christmas stuff
• Toys, sporting goods (golf, baseball, soccer, ski stuff, etc.)
• Pictures, picture frames
• Books, magazines
• Pillows, curtains, bedding, shower curtains, towels, placemats, napkins
• Cosmetics (people love to buy those miniature samples you get as free gifts at the cosmetic counters), hair dryers, hot rollers
• Baked Goods – If they don’t have any items suggest they make a batch of cookies or brownies. You can sell them for $1 each.
• Make a flyer for all of your neighbors telling them about the sale and to contact you if they have anything to donate. If you have time, deliver the fliers several blocks around your house.
• If you get so much merchandise that you don’t think you can hold it at your house look at renting a hall or other facility to hold the sale at.
• Place ads in your local paper 1 week before the sale. You also want to get some signs. You can buy blank signs at the Home Depot or Lowes. Get pink paint and paint pink ribbons with the words: All proceeds donated to Breast Cancer Awareness along with YOUR ADDRESS with the date of the garage sale.

If you have a dollar store in your area, you can go in and get helium filled pink balloons to tie to the signs. You could also ask a store to donate the balloons for you.

Also, be sure to list your sale on Craigslist. It is free and more and more people are using it.

The weekend or day before your sale, you will sort through all of the merchandise that was donated. You want to rebox the merchandise and then put it back in the garage so the day of the sale you pull things out and they are sorted and ready to go.

If you don’t have tables you can:
• spread a sheet out on the ground and put items on sheets
• turn over boxes and they become make shift tables
• if you do have a table be sure to utilize not only the top but also underneath it. You can make a tiered system where you have the table top, then boxes turned over under the table and then merchandise layed in front of the boxes. You just created a 3 tier display.
• Baked Goods – ALWAYS have baked goods on hand. If you are not a baker than buy some fresh baked cookies/brownies/cakes at Sam’s Club or the supermarket. Put them into zip lock bags and sell them. What I found is if people don’t find anything at the sale to buy they will buy a baked item from you.
• Drinks – Also sell drinks. Coffee (for the am), bottled water, soda.
• Donation Jar - Make a sign saying donations.
• Merchandise - Get some other breast cancer merchandise to sell. Get some silicone bracelets or other items.
• Banner – Get a banner or other signs to put up around your yard.
• Breast Cancer Shirt – Make sure everyone who is working the sale is wearing a pink shirt. This makes it easy for the people attending your sale to find the actual people working it. If they don’t have a pink shirt, buy some pink baseball hats for them to wear.
• Money – Make sure you have enough 1’s, 5’s, 10’s and quarters. I do not get anything smaller than a quarter. I recommend at least $100. Do not take checks unless you know the person. We learned the hard way when we sold 2 beautiful wing back chairs for $100 to this woman and the check bounced!!! If someone asks tell them where the closest ATM is for them to get money.
• Pricing Items – We do not recommend pricing any items. What we do is say all proceeds are being donated to breast cancer we are asking for a donation. If we don’t think it is a large enough donation we will let you know. We do this because we found that since people knew it was going to breast cancer they would give us more money. I would in my mind come up with a dollar figure that I thought was good for the item. If the people don’t seem to know how much to suggest than you suggest a price.
• If people don’t offer enough money – You say: I am sorry but people donated this merchandise knowing the proceeds were going to breast cancer. We don’t want to give their stuff away. How about X – then you tell them a dollar amount.
• If it is a larger piece item you can always say we know we can get X for it on Ebay so we will just wait and post it on there. We really don’t want to give it away.

Western redcedar (Thuja plicata) is a species of Thuja, an evergreen coniferous (Conifer: cone-bearing seed plants with vascular tissue; all extant conifers are woody plants, the great majority being trees with just a few being shrubs. Typical examples of conifers include cedars, douglas-firs, cypresses, firs, junipers, kauis, larches, pines, redwoods, spruces and yews.) tree in the cypress family. Cupressaceae (The Cupressaceae or cypress family is a conifer family with worldwide distribution. The family includes 27-30 genera (17 monotypic) with about 130-140 species. They are monocious, subdioecious or (rarely) dioecious trees and shrubs from 1-116 m (3-379 ft.) tall. The bark of mature trees is commonly orange-to-red brown and of stringy texture, often flaking or peeling in vertical strips, but smooth, scaly or hard and square-cracked in some species.), native to the northern United States and southwestern Canada, from southern Alaska and British Columbia south to northwestern California and inland to western Montana.

The foilage forms flat sprays with scale-like leaves in opposite pairs, with successive pairs at 90 degrees to each other. Riparian zones occur in many forms including grassland, woodland, wetland or even non-vegetative. the word "riparian" is derived from Latin ripa, meaning river bank.) tree, and grows in many forested swamps and streambanks in its range. The tree is shade-tolerant, and able to reproduce under dense shade.

The soft red-brown timber is valued for its resistance to decay, being extensively used for outdoor construction in the form of posts, decking, shingles, siding and outdoor furniture including porch swings, patio tables, picnic tables. garden benches, garden trelisses, arbors, bridges and so much more. It is also used to line closets and chests, for its pungent aromatic oils are believed to discourage moth and carpet beetle lavae, which can damage cloth by eating wool and similar fibers. This is of course more effective in a properly constructed redcedar chest (sometimes made of entirely cedar), since the oils are confined by shellac and leather seals.

Cedar is a lightweight and dimensionally stable wood that lies flat and stays flat. It stays cool. It is an incredible thermal co-efficient. It is fungal and bacterial resistant couples with the fact that cedar is 80% the strength of oak, makes it the most desirable wood for building outdoor furniture such as: porch swings, picnic tables, garden benches, patio tables, adirondack chairs, loungers, ottomans, garden trellisses and arbors. Cedar is an excellent material for humid and moist climates.

Consider the advantages of purchasing outdoor patio tables, porch swings, adirondack chairs, garden benches and other outdoor furniture and garden products made from cedar. It won't bow or sag over time. It won't become faded or dull sun scorched but rather will hold its beautiful appearance for years to come. Cedar is an all around healthier and safer choice for outdoor furniture and garden products.

Most of todays outdoor furniture material is chemically treated. These materials are soaked in a toxic stew of chemical preservatives that are strong enough to require warning labels for those handling it. There are three primary ingredients in pressure treated woods: copper, arsenic and chromium. The extent of arsenic exposure due to physical contact with CCA wood surfaces has caused a controversy. Playground equipment, picnic tables and decks are such surfaces built using CCA treated wood. Virtually no inorganic arsenic is absorded through the skin, but is readily taken in by ingestion, studies have shown. Thus, the potential exposure is hand to mouth, and therefore, children are considered to be the most vulnerable to this potential risk.

Cedar is a natural alternative to chemically treated wood. So why not choose it for your outdoor furniture, garden products and your construction needs.

Playing piano can be a wonderful experience. If you want to start playing piano sheet music you need to know a few of the conventions used in western sheet music notation. Let's make a little journey through the music notation djungle!

First we might notice that the piano as we are used to play have been around for some time. Around 500 years or more. Playing keyboards is in other words a rather old art. This means that the conventions as to how to play keyboard instruments and how to notate the music have had some time to develop.

As you might know a piano has 88 keys. This means a full sized piano but you will find keyboards with a considerably less amount of keys. however, the order of the white and black keys are the same.

How can you learn to play piano?

Well, as you might know little children don't have too much problem with this question. The just hammer on!

At least one thing you can learn from children. To learn to play you have to play. That is an important beginning!

Do you need sheet music in order to start playing the piano? Well, the before mentioned children have already answered the question with a definite no!

Some accomplished pianists have never used sheet music at all and play entirely by ear or by reading chords in songs. This type of pianists usually learn songs by listening to recordings or just by playing from memory. It works fine and many very fine musicians and pianist have used this approach.

Other pianist have always played sheet music and would feel very uneasy confronted with a keyboard without their music sheets. Maybe they have learned pieces by heart and have a large repertoire of piano solos but they have never improvised or played by ear. Even these pianists can create great music.

I would suggest that you use the best parts of both these approaches as you learn to play piano. Take time to develop your ear and improvise but also to make a conscious effort to learn to play piano sheet music.

One way to learn to read sheet music with a concentrated effort is to read a piano solo and trying to understand all signs and symbols in the music.

Try to tap the rhythm and as you become more skilled you can try to sing or hear the music in your head. This is a very effective way to really get into learning sheet music.

Here are some symbols you will find as you read a piece of piano sheet music:

You will find vertical lines in the music that divides the notes in groups. These lines are called barlines and the distance between two of these barlines are called a measure.

Sometimes you will find two dots at the end of a section and also a double bar. The two dots are called a repeat sign indicating that you should play the section twice.

The elaborated G is called the G clef and indicates the position of the note G in the treble note staff. It is also called the treble clef.

The left hand notes are mainly situated in the bass clef or the F clef because the two dots indicates the note F.

It will be a great help for you to study the sheet music before you play a piece of music, rehearsing the names of the notes and preparing yourself for a pleasant encounter with the music behind the dots.
